The UN Human Rights Council backs a report into Israel’s Gaza war crime offensive.
The UN Human Rights Council in Geneva voted by 25 to six to refer a controversial report accusing Israel of war crimes during the Gaza offensive in January to the Security Council.
In what were reported to be “robust exchanges” over the telephone, Mr Brown was said to have told the Israeli leader that his country needed to hold an independent inquiry into the Gaza offensive if it was to escape censure.
Mexican American astronaut isn’t changing course on immigration stand
NASA went ballistic when Jose Hernandez advocated legalization of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. shortly after his return to Earth. The California-born son of migrants isn’t backing down.
Reporting from Mexico City - He might have soared a gazillion miles into outer space, but back here on Earth, U.S. astronaut Jose Hernandez has stepped knee-deep in controversy.
Hernandez, the California-born son of Mexican immigrants, is a full-fledged media star in Mexico. Fans here followed his every floating, gravity-free move over the last two weeks as he Twittered from the Discovery space shuttle mission and gave live interviews to local TV programs.
After the shuttle returned to this planet last week, Hernandez told Mexican television that he thought the United States should legalize the millions of undocumented immigrants living there so that they can work openly in the U.S. because they are important to the economy.
Officials at NASA flipped. They hastened to announce that Hernandez was speaking for himself and only for himself.
“It all became a big scandal,” Hernandez told television viewers today. “Even the lawyers were speaking to me.”
Hernandez was back on Mexican network Televisa’s popular morning chat show, where he has seemingly been a fixture, to update host Carlos Loret de Mola on how he was adapting back on Earth.

On July 12, 2008, Luis Ramirez, a 25-year-old Mexican immigrant residing in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania, was tragically beaten and stomped to death by a group of teens as he walked through the town. Witnesses overheard anti-Mexican and ethnic epithets shouted by his assailants during the violent attack. A retired Philadelphia police officer testified during the preliminary hearing that she heard one of the defendants yell, “Tell your [expletive] Mexican friends to get the [expletive] out of Shenandoah or you’ll be [expletive] laying next to him.”
Obama can be this blunt because he has plenty of political capital. Two polls this week show him with approval ratings in the mid-60 percent range as the recession deepened. His nearly $800 billion stimulus package made it through Congress on schedule. Republicans may oppose Obama, but their leaders haven’t stopped him. read more

In Utah, two legislators, one from each party, have proposed delaying implementation of a law set to take effect in July. The bill’s provisions include a requirement that government agencies check the legal status of new hires against a federal database.
Sinn Féin President Gerry Adams demanded that the international community match hard words with strong action.
Adams said:
“Two years ago, I visited the Palestinian refugee camp at Kalandia in the West Bank. The camp was established in 1949, the year after I was born. In the intervening years, thousands of Palestinian families have endured the horror of living in the most unimaginable and terrible of conditions in that camp.
“Their plight is replicated right across that region by millions of Palestinians. Is cúis náire agus cúis brón é sin don domhain ar fad. This is an indictment of the international community who have failed to provide the leadership necessary to bring an end to this crisis decades ago.
“Each day we have watched in growing outrage as the people of Gaza are subjected to a brutal military assault and occupation that has left almost a thousand dead – hundreds of them children.
“The haunting images of homes wrecked, of terrified families existing among rubble in shock and despair, and of endless funerals, has rightly outraged people across the world. Caithfidh deireadh a theacht le seo anois.
“It is time all of this was brought to an end. The slaughter of people in Gaza must end.
‘The Israeli government has ruthlessly and cynically exploited the continuing guilt among gentiles over the slaughter of Jews in the Holocaust as a justification for the murder of Palestinians’
The protesters had gathered to wave placards, banners and flags bearing slogans such as “End the Siege in Gaza” and “Free Palestine”.
The demonstration outside the embassy was organised by the Stop the War Coalition and Respect MP George Galloway and former Labour MP Tony Benn were among those who addressed the crowd.
Afterwards Mr Galloway said: “The support at today’s demonstration has been overwhelming. There are even Jewish rabbis who have joined us here.
“We should treat Israel as we treated South Africa during apartheid. They should be shunned.”

Air strikes on towns and civilians .. how brave !! but this is not considered terrorism of course … because they are Israelis .. but if Palestinians were the ones who did this … all the world would be talking about how poor the Israeli nation is …
Israel’s time is almost up … enjoy the time you have left … because the Palestinian nation will take his righteous land back .. soon enough
God Bless Palestine .. and May God be with you Gaza …

If you want to blame someone, go back to the root cause and blame the UN for allowing the Jews to settle in this area after WWII. All it did was create a conflicted zone that will never stop fighting.
I received a message about a petition that is being circulated on the Internet , and i think its important that “all of us” participate , so we could let The Obama Administration know the importance of addressing this issue.
Here is a small part from it: ask your Administration to address the violations of human rights and civil liberties resulting from ill-conceived immigration enforcement policies pursued by the Bush Administration. read more .
I found this great article from Gerry Storm about immigration at [NPR.com] concerning “Steven Camarata” comments on today’s Morning Edition with NPR.
By Gerry Storm Quote” The fact is the “Immigration Debate” is essentially a question of great human magnitude concerning the living conditions in Mexico. It is fueled by the promise of improvements in these conditions by migrating northward. If there was equal promise in both countries there would be no need to immigrate and thus no immigration problems at the border.”
“What is the root cause of these conditions and why have so many Mexicans been negatively effected in recent years? The answer is NAFTA. NAFTA brought American agricultural products to Mexico, at such ridiculously low prices that the native farmers can no longer compete. These products are heavily subsidized by the US government.“ Full article at NPR
